Our Recommendation
For most sites, UpdraftPlus free with Google Drive or Dropbox storage is sufficient. For WooCommerce stores where every order matters, BlogVault real-time backups are worth the investment. For agencies, Duplicator Pro handles both backups and migrations.
FAQ - Common questions
Answers to frequently asked questions about backup plugins.
How often should I back up my WordPress site?
Daily for active sites, real-time for WooCommerce. At minimum, back up before any updates or major changes. Store at least 30 days of backups.
Where should I store my backups?
Always store backups offsite-not on the same server as your site. We recommend cloud storage like Google Drive, Dropbox, or Amazon S3. Keep multiple copies.
My host provides backups. Do I still need a plugin?
Host backups are good but you should have your own backup system too. Host backups may not be granular, may not be retained long enough, and you can't always restore individual items.
