Accessibility - Websites that work for everyone

Over 1 billion people worldwide have disabilities. Web accessibility ensures your website works for all of them - and with the European Accessibility Act now in effect, it's a legal requirement for most digital services. We audit, remediate, and build accessible websites that meet WCAG standards.

Why It Matters - Accessibility is good for business

Beyond legal compliance, accessible websites reach more customers, improve SEO, and provide better experiences for everyone - including users on mobile devices, slow connections, or in challenging environments.

WCAG Standards - Understanding compliance levels

WCAG 2.1 defines three levels of conformance. Level AA is the standard requirement for most legal and regulatory compliance.

A

Level A

The minimum level of accessibility. Addresses the most critical barriers that would prevent users from accessing content at all.

Examples

  • Alt text for images
  • Keyboard accessibility
  • No seizure-inducing content
  • Text alternatives for media
AA

Level AA

The standard compliance level for most legal requirements. Addresses major barriers for users with disabilities.

Examples

  • Color contrast (4.5:1 ratio)
  • Resizable text up to 200%
  • Skip navigation links
  • Consistent navigation
AAA

Level AAA

The highest level of accessibility. Provides enhanced access but may not be achievable for all content types.

Examples

  • Enhanced contrast (7:1 ratio)
  • Sign language for video
  • Reading level considerations
  • No timing dependencies

FAQ - Accessibility questions

Have more questions? We're happy to discuss your specific accessibility needs.

What is WCAG and which version should I follow?

WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) is the international standard for web accessibility. WCAG 2.1 Level AA is the current legal standard in most jurisdictions, including the EU (European Accessibility Act) and for most US requirements. WCAG 2.2 was released in 2023 and adds additional criteria, but 2.1 AA remains the baseline.

Is web accessibility legally required?

In many cases, yes. The European Accessibility Act requires accessibility for many digital products and services. In the US, the ADA has been interpreted to cover websites. Many countries have similar laws. Beyond legal requirements, accessibility is simply good business - it expands your audience and improves usability for everyone.

How long does an accessibility audit take?

A typical audit takes 1-2 weeks depending on site size and complexity. Small sites (under 20 unique templates) can be completed in a week. Large sites with complex functionality may take 2-3 weeks. We provide a timeline estimate after reviewing your site.

Can you make my existing site accessible?

Yes, in most cases. The extent of work depends on your current site and platform. Some issues are quick fixes (alt text, color contrast), while others may require significant development work (complex interactive components). We provide a detailed remediation plan with effort estimates.

How do I maintain accessibility after remediation?

Accessibility is ongoing, not a one-time fix. We offer training for your team, documentation of best practices, and ongoing monitoring services. We also recommend including accessibility checks in your content publishing workflow and development process.
